Course Description
With the increase of foreign workers in Japan, the number of children in Japanese schools whose first language is not Japanese is increasing. With an increase in the number of Japanese going on overseas postings, the number of Japanese children growing up abroad is also increasing. This course examines how the language and communication skills of children who grow up bilingual develop and ho they can be nurtured. It will also examine the effects and influences that bilingualism, second language acquisition, the role of the first language, and exposure to two cultures have on second language learners.
