Swenson, Tamara A.

Course Description

Understanding that English learned in Japan is not English as a second language (ESL) but English as a foreign language (EFL), students will examine and put into practice teaching theory that focuses on improving students’ ability in communication. The course links theory with practice through “hands on” activities that include teaching skills in the four skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the preparation of teaching plans, and class management. The main areas covered in this course include teaching methodology, communication theory, factors influencing foreign language acquisition, schema theory, learning motivation, and computer and internet use.
