授業の目的、または到達目標

Students will learn strategies to improve their English reading comprehension skills and acquire skills to comprehend and digest the contents of various works from English literatures.

授業の概要

Based on reading comprehension strategies of sentences and paragraphs, students will practice their reading comprehension skills including vocabulary, syntax, and meaning. In order to improve their presentation skills, students will be required to give oral presentation on summaries of texts they read.

授業の形態

  1. Lectures, discussions, presentations on summaries, quizzes, performances

準備学習

  • Class work: Students will be asked to read about 10-20 pages per week (of the class textbook). They will take a quiz to assess their understanding the assigned readings. Through performances, students will understand rhythms of English language and grammar. Moreover, by doing so they are expected to learn the joy of reading in general. Regular attendance is required and expected. Students who miss class are responsible for finding out what work was done and what homework is due. Writing two summaries: Students write two different summaries on what they read in class. If a student does not turn in the assigned summaries, she cannot pass the course. Presentation: Students are required to give at least one presentation of a summary on what they read outside the class.
